A Message From Sheriff Chris Houston ---

Sheriff Houston, now at the age 46, began his career in law enforcement in 1989 with The University of Georgia Police Department. In 1996 he was elected as the Sheriff of Greene County defeating the two previous incumbents with 57% of the vote. He firmly defeated the same opposition in 2000 with 76% of the vote, and ran unopposed in the next two elections (2004 & 2008). He was re-elected to a 5th term of office to begin January 1, 2013.
Chris Houston is currently pursuing a PhD from Northcentral University and expects to complete his dissertaion in 2013. He holds a number of degrees to include a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Brenau University, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University, and a B. A. from the University of Georgia. Sheriff Houston has also completed Georgia’s Command College, a 320 hour curriculum focused on Justice Administration provided by The Association of Chiefs of Police and Columbus State University.
Houston serves as an adjunct instructor for Athens Technical College and for Columbus State University. He holds an instructor certification from the Georgia Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Council and has served as a guest trainer for the North East Georgia Police Academy, Georgia Public Safety Training Center, and the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.
Among many awards, Sheriff Houston was selected as Who’s Who among International Public Servants, 2001 National Deans List, initiated into Phi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration in December 2002, Golden Key Honor Society in 2011 and has been nominated for the Governor’s Public Service Award for Law Enforcement by his peers and constituents.
